Welcome! I’m Jack Harding.

A bit about me..

I’m a budding fiction writer with a focus and passion for historical narratives and character-driven storytelling.

I live in Derbyshire, I’m married to Sophie and we have a baby daughter Amelia.

I work in the software industry and I’m a rating in the Royal Naval Reserve currently going through Phase Two training.

Creative Focus

My writing explores historical fiction, focusing on real events and sometimes twisting the ending for a different take on what could have happened. I focus on making complex historical settings feel human, and grounded as well as exploring events from different view points to give a 360 degree view of what’s happening.

Technical & Professional Background

When I’m not writing, I work in application support and I’m teaching myself cloud systems engineering in my spare time, specifically:

  • Current role: I support customers using Keyloop’s SAAS platforms, troubleshooting a wide variety of queries from user administration to peformance related issues. I regularly manage weekly client calls with key customers to manage multiple tickets within my team.
  • Cloud Infrastructure & DevOps: Building static pipelines, containerized deployments, and managing AWS cloud security (ACLs, Security Groups, S3/CloudFront CDN).
  • System Operations: Supporting critical enterprise software applications and managing platform architectures.
  • Continuous Learning: Python scripting, cloud security - AWS, Linux and I’m pursuing a management apprenticeship through my work.

About This Website

This platform is a dual-purpose project. Beyond being a clean, distraction-free reading experience for my short stories, the site itself acts as a live technical portfolio piece:

  • Framework: Hugo Static Site Generator
  • Hosting & CDN: AWS S3 & CloudFront Edge Distribution
  • CI/CD: Automated testing and static asset builds via GitHub Actions
